Femi Gbajabiamila came out as the winner in the election held in Abuja by APC members after gathering 154 votes to defeat his challenger, Yakubu Dogara, who was reported to have been so angry that he stormed out of the venue of the election in fury after getting only 3 votes. Four votes were declared invalid by the returning officer, the national vice chairman. Meanwhile, the House of Reps is expected to elect a new Speaker on Tuesday.

Mr. Dogara has however stated categorically according to some reports that he would not accept the results of the election, he declared that the election as far as he was concerned was null and void. Tahir Monguno who scored 153 votes was also elected as candidate for Deputy Speaker.
One hundred and eighty three members attended the election and161 voted.

In a statement released shortly after Mr. Gbajabiamila was announced the winner, Mr. Dogara who was fully in support of the Primaries before his defeat came out and said the election was against the position taken by President Muhammadu Buhari on the process of electing new leaders for the national assembly.
The statement went further to state that it was unconstitutional for the party to organise a mock election before the main election.

Dogara and his supporters thereby insisted that they have rejected the election that favoured Gbajabiamila as the winner and that the real election for Speaker would hold on Tuesday inside the chamber of the national assembly.

The statement claimed at the same time that they were ignorant that an election was to take place and they were only there because they were summoned.

“If we were coming for election we ought to have been notified well ahead.
We therefore view this as an ambush, manipulative and indicative of the fact that the party leadership came with a predetermined position which was skewed to favour Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.” the statement read.

Hon Gbajabiamila on the other hand has taken to his Twitter page to show gratitude to everyone in APC that showed him support by electing him.

“Now I have to get my PDP brothers and sisters” He wrote.
