Police smash 19 notorious kidnappers, armed robbers in Delta
The Delta State Police have smashed 19 notorious kidnappers and armed robbers believed to have been terrorizing the state. The armed bandits were arrested in a separate robbery and kidnapping operations in the state by the crack team of police operatives.
The suspects include Lucky Eraigu, Ignatius Obagha of Ogbeozoma Qtrs, Okpanam, Obed Oluchi of No.36 Chinedu Eze Str. Off Agric road, Asaba, Mustapha Ali of Abraka Market, Asab, Ifeanyi Aniekwe of Ogbaru Town, Anambra State, Ifeanyi Nwosu of No.36 Chinedu Eze Str. Off Agric Road, Asaba.
Others are, Friday Joe of Agbaide Community Agbara Town, Rukevwe Emekpe of No. 4 kes College Street, Ughelli, Oghenero Odirome ‘m’, 20yrs of Agbaide Area Agbara town, Ifeanyi Ugege of Obivwe Street, Iyala, warri and Moses Pender of Orokpokpor Olomo Community among others.
The Delta state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Zanna said that the armed robbers numbering about five attempted to kidnap one Mr. Amobi Molokwu in front of his house gate behind Corner Stone International School off, Okpanam road, Asaba but he narrowly escaped.
Mr. Zanna said that the hoodlums succeeded in robbing him of his Rav 4Jeep with reg. no. ASB 176 AV, his phones cash and other valuables saying that Intel gathered technologically led to the arrest of suspects and Ignatius Obagha in whose possession the victim’s infinix phone was recovered.
Police boss noted that the syndicate confessed to most car robberies/kidnapping within Asaba/Okpanam and their environs.
Commissioner of Police said that one Chunwua Benjamin of No. 7 Akpati street, Kwale and others now at large forcefully took one Odachi Ikechukwu into the bush behind his father’s house and initiated him into Viking Confraternity, saying that the suspects also forced the victim to cut his thumb and drink his own blood.
According to him, ” at about 2100hrs, a team attached to Ebrumede Division Effurun while on raiding at Uti Junction by PTI roundabout Effurun accosted a tricycle with Reg. No. BUR 775 QH with four occupants who on sighting the police disembarked from the tricycle and took to their heels”.
“The men were given a hot chase and in the process one Lucky Eraiga was arrested with a cut-to-size locally made double barrel gun with two live cartridges and a bag while the three others escaped. Suspect and exhibits were transferred to SARS office Asaba where he confessed to the detectives that they robbed one Oben Solomon and others of their belongings while armed with the recovered gun. Investigation is in progress, while effort to get other members of the gang is on top gear.”
However, he said that “on 19/07/2017, at about 2000hrs, one Ruth Edemogbata ‘f’ was in her house at Isioghe Street Ozoro, when four armed men suddenly broke into the house and kidnapped her into a green highlander Jeep and zoomed off to an unknown destination. Three suspects Friday Joe, Rukevwe Emekpa and Oghenero Odirome were arrested by Eagle-Net patrol team in connection to the case. The suspects confessed to the crime and have made useful statements to the police that will lead to the arrest of other gang members. Investigation is in progress.”
“On 30/07/2017, at about 0630hrs, one Gift Iliya was attacked by two armed men. As a result of the attack, he sustained a serious gunshot injury while escaping from the suspects. On the arrest of the suspects by men of Eagle net patrol team, they confessed to the crime and also confessed to the kidnap of one Linda Akpodiaye ‘f’ that was kidnapped on 31/07/2017 at about 0200hrs from her house. Suspects are undergoing investigation”.
