The Ugandan Nanny Jolly Tumuhiirwe, 22, who was secretly filmed abusing 18-month-old Arnella Kamanzi under her care, is expected to be sentenced on Wednesday, 10 December 2014 after she has pleaded guilty to child abuse. She was charged in court with the torture of the child and could face up to 15 years in prison or a fine of about £260 or both.

State prosecutor Joyce Tushabe told AFP that the maid, who had no lawyer, “was remorseful” in court.

“She said she was sorry for the act. She asked for forgiveness from the parents of the child, the nation, and those she said were affected by her acts,” Tushabe said.

The child father Eric Kamanzi, who was getting increasingly concerned of her daughter safety after noticing some usual sickly behavior from her daughter, had installed CCTV camera at his Nakawa home to see if the maid was up to any mischief. Jolly Tumuhiirwe was caught on camera viciously beating the child when she coughs out food that she is being fed and also flings her across the room. While the baby lay on the ground, groaning in pain, Tumuhiirwe pummels her on the buttocks with a club and stamps on her several times before dragging her by one hand to a room out of the view of the camera.
