N500m Lawsuit: Ndukwe Chickens Out!
Hon. Louis Oguguamakwa Ndukwe, the Executive Chairman of Delta State Oshimili North Local Government Council, has in principle dropped the Five Hundred Million Naira (N500m) lawsuit he instituted against a Delta State indigene, Oge Okonkwo Osinkor, for alleging on Facebook and in WhatsApp that he (Ndukwe) used fifty million Naira (N50m) looted from the Council coffers to host Senator Peter Nwaoboshi in his home and to bankroll Nwaoboshi’s extravagant thanksgiving party.
XCLUSIVE MAGAZINE reported on 29 February 2016 that in the Suit (No: Aku/11/2016), filed on 10 February 2016 at High court Registry Akwukwu-Igbo Delta State, the embattled Council boss was not only asking for the sum of N500m as damages, but also seeking the court to restrain Mr Osinkor, popularly known as Daddy O Concept, from further publications of any libelious materials against him and demanding a letter of apology from Mr Osinkor to be published in six national newspapers namely, The Sun, Guardian, Vanguard, Pointer, Tribune and Punch.
XCLUSIVE MAGAZINE understands that Mr Osinkor, the proprietor of Anioma Gardens Bar & Restaurants in Ogboli Ibusa Delta State, did not respond to the writ of summons nor did he write or publish any letter of apology. A source revealed to XCLUSIVE MAGAZINE that Oge deliberately ignored the court order because as soon as he was slammed with the N500m law suit he realised that Ndukwe’s action was very unpopular and was widely condemned by many people in the Delta North including his close associates.
XCLUSIVE MAGAZINE gathered from reliable sources that Ndukwe was impressed upon by Senator Nwaoboshi to drop the law suit. And being an order from his political godfather, he had no other choice but to let go the case. However, one insider source told XCLUSIVE MAGAZINE that although Ndukwe has in principle dropped the case, he has not officially withdrawn it from court for strategic reason.
According to the insider source, “The idea is to leave the case dangling over Mr Osinkor’s head like the Sword of Damocles and to be triggered anytime Mr Osinkor crosses the line again, and also to serve as a check on any other social media critics that will impugn Council Boss’ image and reputation.”
Nwaoboshi’s intervention in the N500m law suit was a follow up to his resolution of the crisis between the Oshimili North Executive and Councillors. The Oracle, Senator Nwaoboshi is popularly called, had ordered the immediate reinstatement of the four suspended Councillors and their salaries paid. Recall that it was the suspension of the Councillors that had incensed Mr Osinkor to spill the beans on the corrupt and overbearing Council chairman, which led to his being hit with N500m law suit.
