Miyetti Allah’s Claim, An Act Of War – Gov. Ortom
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has condemned recent claim by Miyetti Allah, a Fulani socio-cultural association, to ownership of the fertile Benue Valley largely found in his state, stating that such utterances amounts to declaration of war on indigenes of the state.
The state governor made this known through Lawrence Onoja Jnr, in news release. Miyetti Allah, Kautal Hore held a press conference in Abuja, recently, to reject the Open Grazing Prohibition and Establishment of Ranches Law signed by Governor Ortom. In the news release, National Secretary of the Association, Engr. Saleh Alhassan, claimed that the Benue Valley have always belonged to the Fulanis and not the Tivs.
According to the report “the association vowed to mobilize herdsmen in the country to resist the law as it was a deliberate attempt to enslave their members.”
But reacting, the state government said that such comment amounted to a declaration of war. “We request the Federal Government to call Miyetti Allah and its leaders to order before they plunge the country into a conflagration
which will be difficult to contain.
“We call on all Nigerians to stand up and condemn the threat of Miyetti Allah. Our legitimate contribution to the resolution of herdsmen and farmers crises should be appreciated because the clashes between farmers and herdsmen remain one of the most protracted problems across our country.
“To be sure, the threat by Miyetti Allah is not only for Benue but for all states that have or will have farmers and herdsmen crisis,” the commissioner said on behalf of the governor.
