Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), who supervised the exercise at Branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) jn  Awka on Wednesday told  journalists that the commission was determined to conduct credible, free and fair election.

INEC will also conduct a rerun election in Obosi, Idemili North to conclude election for Idemili North and Idemili South Federal Constituency and parts of Aguata.

According to Orji, the supplementary elections are necessitated by violence that erupted in some of the polling units in the areas.

He appealed to the electorate, political parties and candidates to be law abiding during the exercise and report any attempt to cause any breach of peace.

“We received the materials in good time and have sorted local government by the local governments, as you can see our local government officials are crosschecking them after which they will record them in our materials receipt form, EC 25 A and B,” he said.

Reacting to NYSC’s decision to withdraw corps members as ad-hoc election officials in Idemili and Ogbaru due to volatility of the areas, Orji said adequate arrangements had been made to ensure the elections in the affected areas would be hitch-free.

He said INEC would fall back  on its  pool of trained officers that would be posted in places where corps members were withdrawn.

He assured the electorate and other stakeholders that there was no cause for worry over availability of trained manpower for the March 9 elections.
