Lightning-Bolt Kills Four Children in Ilorin

What should have being a normal and joyous day turned into a day of mourning for a couple of families in Ilorin Kwara state as four kids lost their lives to an unusual disaster that struck in the early hours of Wednesday May 27, Children’s day.

The incidence happened at Gure, a popular ancient town and the commercial nerve centre of Baruten council. An unusual lightning struck during a downpour between 12 midnight of Tuesday and 1a.m of yesterday.

According to local reports, the lightening killed four children instantly while some other kids were fatally injured. Three of the children were siblings while the last one was there to pass the night.

Sources said the lightening broke down the wall of the building and the sleeping children were electrocuted right there in their sleep. They have since been buried according to the Islam religion.

It was also gathered that the heavy rain that followed the lightening blew off the roofing sheets of many houses in the town, rendering some residents homeless as we speak.

The Chairman of the Local Government, Mallam Mohammed Omar-Bio, confirmed the incident, and is appealing to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to intervene in the matter.

He further stated with the latest incident development, the number of rain disaster victims in the area was more than 200.
