Why Go Back? I Didn’t Forget Anything in Govt House – Alamieyeseigha

The former Governor of Bayelsa State and erstwhile boss of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, has debunked the rumour and whispers flying around about his alleged aspirations to contest against Seriake Dickson in the next Bayelsa governorship elections on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr. Alamieyeseigha, in a statement distributed to journalists on Friday in Abuja, described the reports as ‘complete fallacy’ and an ‘act of mischief’, that media reporters have mastered in their professions for publicity. He explained that he had neither nursed such ambition nor discussed any plans to run for the governorship of Bayelsa State with anybody.

Alamieyeseigha then called on his supporters and the people of Bayelsa to disregard the reports, as they were the handiwork of mischief makers. According to him, he remains a staunch member of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) and has no intention to abandon his party, let alone run for an office under the platform of another party.

The ex-governor said he would rather support and contribute to ongoing efforts at rebuilding and repositioning the PDP which has found itself in the opposition. Mr. Alamieyeseigha also used the opportunity to reaffirm his total support for the administration of the incumbent Governor, Seriake Dickson.

He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the PDP-controlled government in the State and called on all the people of the state to support Seriake Dickson in his second term bid. While reassuring Governor Dickson of his continued support, he also urged Bayelsans to remain focused and not get distracted by people who have no good intentions for the state.

He said: “Having served my people as governor about 10 years ago, I don’t have any intention to go back to Government House. After all I did not forget anything in Government House and nobody should draw me into such games.”

Mr. Alamieyeseigha also called on Bayelsans and the entire Ijaw nation to close ranks, as this is not a time for the people to be divided for whatever reason “but to “work in one accord to reposition ourselves for greater political relevance.”
