Siege on Kashamu’s home is illegal

Embattled Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA in Nigeria on Saturday morning stormed the Lekki home of a Nigeria Senator elect Buruji Kashamu on drug related charges. The siege of the NDLEA is to allegedly effect his arrest following a purported extradition request from the United States despite his denial of the said crime.

According to the Media aide of Kashamu Austin Oniyokor, who confirmed the report that more than a dozen NDLEA officials stormed the house early this morning, this latest onslaught of the NDLEA is an attempt to abduct the Senator illegally to the US on the alleged drug offence even though the Billionaire politician has filed a case to prevent his unlawful extradition to the US.

It could be recalled that the move to extradite Kashamu and the request from the US began after he won a Senatorial seat to represent the people of Ogun in the senate, a move which the politician on several occasions has termed to be malicious and conspiratorial. He accused the former President Olusegun Obasanjo to be behind the plot.

Kashamu denied the smuggling allegations but refused to heed the advice of a U.S Court of Appeal to come and clear the allegations against him. Instead, he has instituted a lawsuit to block any move by the Nigerian government to release him to face trial in the U.S. He denies any wrongdoing and says the American government is mistaking him for another person.

In the press release issued by Kashamu’s Media Aide, Oniyokor highlighted that there was no search warrant to back up their actions hence it was just to score cheap political points.

He said: “We have confirmed that they do not have a warrant of arrest, just as the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice has said that it did not give any order to carry out this illegality. We have confirmed that this illegality is being designed and executed by Chief Bode George whose wife is the Director General of the NDLEA, all in a bid to score cheap political points.

“We urge all well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on NDLEA, Chief George and his wife to toe the path of the rule of law and follow due process. Nigeria is not a Banana republic! The United States(US) being the bastion of democracy, the rule of law and due process should not lend itself to this kind of illegality”

However, it has not been confirmed whether the Billionaire Senator-elect was at home in the Lekki residence or not.
