Man, 48, docked over alleged cheque theft, forgery
A 48-year- old man, Sakiru Ayoola, was on Thursday arraigned in an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing a cheque book and forging the signature of the owner to withdraw N 150,000.
Ayoola, of no fixed address is facing a two-count charge of stealing and forgery.
The prosecutor, Insp. Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 7 at about 10:00 a.m., at First Bank Plc in Panseke, Abeokuta.
Shonibare, said the accused stole the cheque book of the complainant, one Ajasa Oloyode and forged his signature on one of the cheque leaflet to withdraw N150, 000 from his account.
“Ayoola presented the cheque at the bank, while the cashier discovered that Oloyode’s signature was forged.
“He was immediately arrested and handed over to the police,’’ he said.
Shonibare said the offences contravened Sections 383(1) (2) (a) and 465 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun 2006.
The defendant,however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Idowu Olayinka, granted the accused bail in the sum of N400, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Nov. 23 for trial.
