Inter-agency Rivalry Crippling Agencies’ Efficiency – Olukolade

Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade (Rtd), in what appears to be confirmation of earlier claims of inter-agency rivalry bogging down operational efficiency of the country’s security and intelligence agencies, admits that indeed poor cooperation among security agencies in the country has resulted in negative impact not just on their operations but on the nation’s collective interest.

The former Director of Defence Information (DDI) made this call at the Second Quarterly Lecture of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Oyo State Chapter, in Ibadan. Gen. Olukolade said that recent events in the country serve as a pointer to the fact that there are still traces of disharmony, lack of cooperation and synergy in operation and information management among security agencies.

Illustrating the reason why synergy in government activities remains a major component of vital processes for achieving the purpose of government, Olukolade said,” For instance, allegations leading to court ruling on alleged media trial as reported by Col Nicholas Ashinze and consequent embarrassing ruling against another government outfit could certainly have been avoided.”

According to him, challenges facing the country are too grave to be trifled with and therefore urged that agencies should be more cooperative to achieve peace and security.
