Delta Youth Assembly Charge Okowa to Alleviate suffering
A pressure group under the aegis of Delta Youth Assembly (DYA) has chareged Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to alleviate the sufferings of Deltans, saying that hunger promotes violence.
The Delta Youth Assembly comprising all tribes in the state have called on Dr. Okowa to as a matter of urgency pay the salaries of Local government workers in the state.
In a statement signed by Delta Youth Assembly National President, Comrade Gilor Kelly and National Publicity Secretary, M. Ezekiel Enejeta lamented the failure of the Okowa led state government in offsetting over fifteen months salary arrears of local government.
According to the President, “Delta State occupied strategic position in the country which should stand as an example and model for other states of the country and not a laughing stock as it stands today”.
“When the local government workers staged a protest last month, the response of the state government did not address the immediate problem of the masses, rather it heaped the blame on the fact that the workforce of local government workers are too large and as a result salaries obligations could not be met, this is unacceptable, Comrade Gilor said”
Comrade Gilor described the flimsy reasons by Jackson Ekwugum, the Manager Communications to Governor Okowa as dissapointing and inexcusable saing tht workers are not being paid for over one year; “a government that promised prosperity for all Deltans, but only end up giving excuses why he cannot pay salaries, intact, he does not have the interest of the people at heart and all it takes to be Governor.
“Okowa make frantic efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the masses for peace to reign in the state, a hungry society only produces violence and there cannot be any meaningful development without sustainable peace”
