Delta Assembly poll: 2,000 protesters urge INEC to declare Azuya winner
Over two thousand members of Oshimili North chapter of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, trooped out in a peaceful protest to call on independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to declare APGA candidate, Chief Tony Azuya winner of the Saturday April 11 election. This is according to the Vanguard.
Speaking to newsmen the Director General of the Azuya campaign organization, Mr. Afam Enemokwu described the election as the worst ever witnessed with massive rigging, manipulation, snatching of ballots boxes and sensitive electoral materials as well as intimidation of electorate by the members of the People Democratic Party, PDP.
Enemokwu stated that at Ward 1, Akwukwu-Igbo and all the units of the area witnessed massive thumb printing at Illah, Ebu, Okpanam and Ukala, the home town of the PDP member and chairman of Oshimili North Council Mr. Louis Ndukwe, who also allegedly threatened to shoot them if they refused to vote for PDP.
Also speaking, another member of the party and former councilor Mr. Charles Okwali said that other result sheets were mutilated with false results, adding that in the history of politics in the area, it has never recorded above 5,000 voters compared to over 51,000 voters claimed by the PDP in the area during the election.
Mr. Okwali revealed that over 200 thugs led by one Ifeanyi Nwaezeigwe snatched the ballot boxes with the security agents looking the other way.
