Army authority berated over Niger Bridge traffic
Army authority has been berated for constantly blocking the free flow of traffic at Asaba end of the Niger Bridge. The Delta State chapter of the Campaign for Democracy (CD) has charged the Nigerian Army authority to call their men to order before the bridge collapse.
The party Chairman, Comrade Benjamin Igweze who stated this after their meeting in Asaba said they use the opportunity to extort money from motorists and create unnecessary hold up, mounting serious hold up on top of the bridge.
However, he said that the inherent danger of possible collapse of the bridge is causing serious concern to Nigerians, especially the south east and south-south zone urging them to address the issue within two weeks.
Comrade Igweze said that they have received several complaints on the problems created by the Army authority, Police, FRSC and others are making it impossible for traffic to flow even as early as 6:30am and 6:pm daily.
According to him “Campaign for Democracy views the act as an act of lawlessness and asked all relevant security agencies to call their men on duty to order.”
The Party chairman noted other groups have also mounted their base at the bridge creating unnecessary scene.
On the activities of herdsmen in the state, Comrade Igweze said that the Fulani herdsmen have not relented as they continued causing mayhem in every community in the state.
He urged the Federal and state government to live up to the expectation by bringing the activities of these people to an end.
Comrade Igweze noted that the State Commissioner of Police Zanna Ibrahim has within few months in the state dislodged the activities of Fulani herdsmen even as they often engaged in serious battle and subsequently arrested them. He, however, noted with delight the good work done by the Delta State Police Command and called for support by various communities to allow peace reign.
CD chairman further cautioned those creating unnecessary tension in the state to desist saying that the state government is still carrying the citizenry along and wondered why some people should be calling on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to resign for non-performance or describing him as the worst governor.
The group noted that democracy entails allowing the citizenry to have a say in governance and that is exactly what Delta State governor is doing. He commended Governor Okowa for the massive development which cut across the three senatorial zones.
