APC Counters Buhari, Clears AIT
The All Progressives Congress has countered Muhammadu Buhari by clearing African Independent Television (AIT) and other accredited media to cover all activities of the president-elect.
In a press statement issued in Abuja today by its National Publicity Secretary Alhaji Lai Mohammed said: “the incoming Buhari Administration will not discriminate against any media organization, irrespective of its role during the electioneering campaign leading up to the recent polls.”
The statement, however, implored all media organisations to be professional in carrying out their duties, reminding them that “there is a Code of Ethics guiding the practice of journalism in Nigeria, and this demands every journalist to ensure a strict adherence to the highest levels of ethics and professionalism in carrying out their duties.”
Yesterday, Monday 27 April 2015, Buhari placed a ban on AIT from covering his activities. He had cited ethical and security concerns as his reasons.
